Here’s the magic number – 275. At $60 per book, not including shipping, we cover costs to produce the book (about Japanese Horse Medicine in 1236). And, currently, we’re at 216 copies reserved (by email intent).
That means – I THINK WE’RE VERY LIKELY TO GET THIS DONE.
Peter Wacks, founder of EGZ Publications, Ltd., in Denver, CO, the publisher with whom I’m working suggested that we could also do a deluxe edition for anyone that’s interested. This one would have a full leather cover, and other goodies. So, when the time comes, I’ll be asking if you’d like to have the deluxe edition (a few folks have already said they want one).
I thought I’d answer a few questions that I’ve gotten, as well –
WHY THIS BOOK?
Two big reasons.
- This is about an area of horse medicine that is essentially unknown. I like discovering things.
- I am trying to learn to read and speak Japanese. So, I’ve developed a great deal of interest in, and respect for, the language and culture. However… this is in old Japanese, and even native Japanese speakers can’t read it.
WHY NOW?
Like a mountain, it’s there. No time like the present. I’m impatient sometimes.
IS THIS ABOUT LEARNING NEW THERAPIES?
No. Definitely not. And I certainly hope it doesn’t start some sort of a “school” that produces graduates that are newly “certified” in TJVM (Traditional Japanese Veterinary Medicine).
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO FIND?
I expect to find a lot of treatments that may be peripherally related to the way the Chinese treated horses. Not the nonsense that modern “TCVM” practitioners promulgate, rather, I expect it will give us a look at what was actually done.
IF NOTHING ELSE…
The illustrations are extraordinary and there will be added history and commentary, to make it even more interesting. I’m looking into the possibility of working with the Equine Museum of Japan, in Tokyo, with the help of one of my friends who lives there.
So, LET’S GET TO 275!!! Please share this message, encourage your friends and family to buy a copy, buy more as gifts… we’re not very far away.
